In general, installations of the distribution Mediamatics are
"broke", in terms of crummy performance. So the upgrade is a
necessary one -- or change software.

It's required to install the upgrade over the original
installation. Installing the upgrade fresh definitely will not
work. Each package is 15 to 18 MB, as far as I remember.

Installing the upgrade is a two-step process, like many of the
IBM installs. The initial "install" just writes the files to a
temporary directory. Then you have to find the temporary
directory and run the setup from there.

I don't have a clue about what could be the matter. I've had
pretty good results with a free DVD player,
FusionSoft DVD Player XP
It's not under active development, and may be hard to find on
the internet, but it works fine on my 600E 366 MHz under Win2K.

I don't use XP. I wonder if the "smart" qualities of XP,
including DRM, could be incorrectly identifying Mediamatics as
malware?
