[Thinkpad] T20 CPU temp

Thanks, Rob and Art, for telling me your CPU temp.
According to your posts, a CPU temp. of above 90C(=194 F)
may not be so outrageous on the contrary to our common sense.
I guess this temp. is sensed by a sensor built into the CPU core,
not by a one attached to CPU exterior. It should make some
difference with the air temp. Your posts really relieved me a lot.:-)
As for the issue of Art's T20, I think your reasoning is quite right.
ACPI has a feature of slowing down the CPU or shutting down
the system when the temp. reaches to certain values. Actually,
you can check this ACPI thermal management setup by,
1: Right click the task tray icon for MobileMeter
2: Choose 'options'
3: Choose the 3rd tab from left, named 'ACPI???'
4: Choose '#0 THM0' in the top selection box
Now you should see two values in the 2nd column in the
table below. The first value is the critical temp. at which
the entire system is shut down, The second value is the
passive temp. at which the system slows down the CPU
performance to suppress heat generation.
In case that you cannot read these values due to language
incompatibility, let me give you these values in my system,
which is almost identical to yours. The critical/passive temp.
are 97C/91.5C respectively. So your observation that the
system shuts itself down at around this temp. looks consistent
with this setup.
On the other hand, Rob's observation is quite interesting to me.
He hasn't encountered any problem even at 95.5C? Amazing.
This may be due to CPU difference. I would appreciate if Rob
can tell me what the CPU in your Dell Latitude and the ACPI
setup values are. FYI, my and Art's CPU is P3-1GHz
Coppermine core.
